truth

Here's the truth:

I'm full of fear.

Every time I think of coming over to this blog, I tense up.

It's not "cute" yet... it's not perfect...
I'm not exactly sure of what I'm going to say...
I'm not confident with what I want to show...
My artwork isn't "there" yet...
I'm SCARED!

So, I just thought that if I throw that out there, it wouldn't be a secret anymore.

But, you know what???

I don't care anymore!!!!

I'm going to write...
I'm going to share...
I'm going to be who I want to be...
... live how I know I'm meant to live.

Happy 2012!
I can feel the freakin' goodness bubbling up inside me.
I love you.

my one word for the year

letter P KMcElman_090516_U3 S H

Here's my one word for the year... PUSH
push harder
push farther
push on
push 'til the end
push myself in a new way
push myself in new directions!

everything I do this year, it's all about pushing myself to my limits!!!

Ali Edwards reminded me today about my one little word project. I knew my word hadn't been as present in my mind lately, so it was a nice reminder.

Last night I started reading the word Captivating by John and Staci Eldredge. I think this is a great book for my word. It has already started pushing my thoughts in a new direction... I'm excited to see what this book is going to teach me.

for the love of biking

I started scrolling through my photos from Italy earlier... I do that when I want to remember that adventure.  It was two years ago at this time that I was getting ready for that month long adventure.  Oh.... how I miss Italia.

I found this picture and it made me think of how much I want a bike with a basket... and little bell.  (the bell that goes bling dling)  I just got myself a mountain bike last weekend and I love it.  But, I have visions for this cruising bike.  My town isn't super bike friendly, but I could start the trend, right?  I have an old bike in my garage... it's a light bluish/teal color.  It has a cool brown seat and the tires are about to fall off.  I remember the day that I took her home!  I was in a wheel throwing class in college and my professor had it setting by the ceramics building window forever.  One day my prof was doing some serious spring cleaning and yelled out, "anybody want this bike?"  I yelled back, "ME!"  Done!  I borrowed my mom's SUV the next day to pick up my new beauty and she's been in my garage ever since.

My original plan was just to set it in my future art room (when I get a high school art job).  That just seems to be a cool thing to have in an art room... an antique bike.  But, now that I have the mountain bike I realize how much I like the feeling of being on a bike... wind in my hair... so much more speed than my feet bring me.  So, I think it's time to fix up my blue beauty...

My checklist for my cruiser:

1. she needs a name!
2. she needs a visit to the bike shop... new tires?  we'll see...
3. a basket!
4. a bell
5. possibly new grips for the handles... I don't like the feel on the current ones...

let's get it started!

Well, here it is world... I am starting my art blog.  Thanks to a little friend in my life who reminded me today that "it's better to work with what you've got and add to it as you go along."  I hope you don't mind me quoting you, Mccabe...

So, here's what I'm working on.  I started my Mermaid Warriors online class a few weeks ago and I FINALLY did the first project!  Here's my art journal... mermaid warrior style...

Here's a close up of the texture...

A little spiral action.  I'm teaching the kinder and 1st grade kiddos how to draw spirals this week... funny how that connects.  :)

I just want to thank all of the inspiring blogs that I have been looking up to lately.  I hope this little place blossoms into something great...much like yours.
